Back in 2011 I was living in Bogotá, Colombia's capital city. During my time there, I studied music production in a school whose main focus was electronic music. This got me into genres such as House which I had listened to very little until then.

Not long after, I became a fan of electronic music and began to create my first tracks. Once I had my first riffs ready, I added the beat and other rhythmic patterns but something, in opinion, was still missing.

It must have happened some days or weeks after that, while walking in the streets of Bogotá, that I noticed how the noises made by the cars, the people, the building sites and more, mixed to create a unique melody. Of course one could argue that this isn't music but mere noise; however, somehow this chaotic environment inspired what I was missing in my tracks.

Back to working on my music, I took several clips from here and there and put them on top of each other to create a similar atmosphere to that of the streets, i.e. I created layers of sounds that didn't seem to fully go together. That's why I added a layer with someone humming as when in meditation, another with a voice that says several positive affirmations over and over, etc.

Finally, I kept the sequence of the song changing to create variations in the sound, just like you find in the streets of any city. And that's how an afternoon in Bogotá ended up being an experimental track which is one of my first electronic music songs.

En 2011 estuve viviendo en Bogotá, la capital de Colombia. Durante ese tiempo estudié producción musical en una escuela que se especializaba en música electrónica. Esto me llevó a interesarme en géneros como el house que hasta entonces sólo había escuchado muy poco.

No mucho después comencé a seguir la música electrónica de forma mucho más activa y empecé a crear mis primeros temas. Una vez tuve los primeros riffs listos agregué el ritmo pero, en mi opinión, algo seguía haciendo falta.

Debió haber sido algunos días o semanas después de esto, mientras caminaba en las calles de Bogotá, cuando noté cómo los ruidos que creaban los automóviles, la gente, las construcciones y demás, se juntaban para crear una melodía única. Claro está, algunos podrán argumentar que esto no es en realidad música sino simple y llanamente ruido, sin embargo, este ambiente caótico inspiró de alguna forma lo que hasta el momento faltaba en mis temas.

Una vez volví a trabajar en mi música, tomé algunos clips de audio de aquí y allá y los yuxtapuse buscando crear una atmósfera similar a la de las calles, es decir, juntando sonidos que no parecen acoplarse los unos con los otros. Es por eso que añadí la voz de alguien tarareando como cuando se está meditando así como la voz de otra persona diciendo afirmaciones positivas una y otra vez.

Finalmente, compuse el tema cambiando con frecuencia su estructura para así crear variaciones en el sonido tal y como sucede cuando nos encontramos en las calles de cualquier ciudad. Es así pues como una tarde en Bogotá terminó siendo un tema experimental que además es una de mis primeras canciones de música electrónica.
