The story behind the song
(Written at the age of 15): This song speaks about our need to be authentic and not present ourselves as different persons depending on the situation or the people who surround us, all of this, in order to get acceptance from others. The song reflects upon people who are truly happy and how they are precisely those who always remain the same no matter where they are or who stands next to them. Moreover it talks about how, in order to change and grow as persons, we need to release all what makes us think that we ought to be someone else to who we feel attracted to be: someone who personifies the blessings and virtues that we so much desire to have in our lives.
Lyrics / Letra
Life sometimes is a real parade of masks
They exist in all types and characters at the same time
And each person represents his own drama
Also each pretends to hide behind his costume
Many out there enjoy living in unreal worlds
In a paradise of colors and fantastic dreams
Numerous people are attracted to ways without
An exit; a world of masquerades
No one can be completely happy if you’re not authentic
Real without masks that cover who you truly are
No one can be completely happy if you’re not authentic
Why are you so scared
That you need to pretend?
Chorus 1
Dream a dream where everyone is transparent
And I bet when you wake up
You will find that not everybody is as you think
Cos when we’re awake we treat not well people
What we plant is what we reap
Be aware of your own acts
They exist in all types and characters at the same time
And each person represents his own drama
Also each pretends to hide behind his costume
Many out there enjoy living in unreal worlds
In a paradise of colors and fantastic dreams
Numerous people are attracted to ways without
An exit; a world of masquerades
No one can be completely happy if you’re not authentic
Real without masks that cover who you truly are
No one can be completely happy if you’re not authentic
Why are you so scared
That you need to pretend?
Chorus 1
Dream a dream where everyone is transparent
And I bet when you wake up
You will find that not everybody is as you think
Cos when we’re awake we treat not well people
What we plant is what we reap
Be aware of your own acts
Have you ever acted so
Different to who you are
That it seems not you?
Then it’s an impostor
Acting as if it were you
It’s a mask that you
Have strongly attached
And that does not do you any good
Chorus 2
Dream a dream to inspect yourself
And see that your mask falls down
When you cling to things
That you believe bring happiness
And there comes in another mask
To replace the previous one
That’s why the only way to change
Gives it all away
Chorus 3
Dream a dream where you see
The mask salesman appear again
With his appealing masks
That bring no gain
And you reject his masks with your own face
Different to who you are
That it seems not you?
Then it’s an impostor
Acting as if it were you
It’s a mask that you
Have strongly attached
And that does not do you any good
Chorus 2
Dream a dream to inspect yourself
And see that your mask falls down
When you cling to things
That you believe bring happiness
And there comes in another mask
To replace the previous one
That’s why the only way to change
Gives it all away
Chorus 3
Dream a dream where you see
The mask salesman appear again
With his appealing masks
That bring no gain
And you reject his masks with your own face
