Modern Lolita

December 2019: Who has not heard about Lolita, the controversial story of a young girl who gets sexually involved with a middle-aged man after he becomes her stepfather? The novel, published by Vladimir Nabokov in the 1950s, shows a young girl who, for whatever reason, takes an unfortunate path and ends up leading a very chaotic life. This Lolita from literature made me think about a young girl who would embody the complete opposite, i.e., a girl who would take the path of leading an organized and balanced life.

I began then to portray this new Lolita and imagine her traits and characteristics. Little by little the new Lolita came to life and I dubbed her "modern Lolita," because by leading a balanced and harmonious life she would be a role model for all young girls in these modern times.

What would modern Lolita then look like? Above all, she would be concerned with her inner beauty, with keeping and fostering traditional values that are at the basis of all modern societies. Modern Lolita would understand the value of a pure heart, of filling it with love, compassion and understanding for herself and others. Modern Lolita would also understand the value of a pure mind, of filling it with positive, nurturing thoughts. She would get rid of all vain desires, of fervently wishing objects, experiences and outcomes that only serve to create a self-centered and selfish personality.

Modern Lolita is beautiful in the outside, but many times more beautiful in the inside. She is fearful of God, meaning that she so reveres and loves God that she is afraid of doing something that might offend him. God is at the center of her life and that is the reason why she is meek, i.e., willing to accept and submit without resistance to the will of God.

On top of that, modern Lolita is aware of her talents and gifts and uses them to serve others and bring joy; she believes in herself and this makes her confident and outgoing, all of this without the need to be known and recognized by others; she is smart, but knows that she doesn’t know it all and that learning is a never-ending cycle. Put in a nutshell, modern Lolita is full of love, full of God. She is a light that shines bright in the world and inspires love and admiration in most hearts.

Diciembre de 2019: ¿Quién no ha escuchado sobre Lolita, la controversial historia de una niña que sostiene relaciones íntimas con un hombre de mediana edad después de que él se convierte en su padrastro? La novela, publicada por Vladimir Nabokov en la década de 1950, muestra a una jovencita que, por la razón que fuera, emprende un desafortunado camino y termina viviendo una vida caótica. Esta Lolita de la literatura me llevó a pensar en una niña que personificaría lo opuesto, es decir, una niña que emprendería el camino de llevar una vida sana y equilibrada.

Así pues, comencé a retratar a la nueva Lolita y a imaginarme sus rasgos y características. Poco a poco la nueva Lolita fue cobrando vida y la llamé "Lolita moderna", puesto que al llevar una vida armoniosa y equilibrada ella sería un modelo para las jovencitas en estos tiempos modernos.

¿Cómo sería entonces la Lolita moderna? Por encima de todo, ella se preocuparía por cultivar su interior, por guardar y promover los valores tradicionales que están a la base de todas las sociedades modernas. La Lolita moderna entendería el valor de un corazón puro, de llenarlo de amor, de compasión y compresión con ella misma y con las otras personas. Asimismo, la Lolita moderna entendería el valor de tener una mente limpia y sana, de llenarla de pensamientos positivos y enriquecedores. Ella se desharía de todo tipo de deseos vanos, de desear intensamente objetos, experiencias y resultados que solamente sirven para crear una personalidad egocéntrica e interesada.

La Lolita moderna es hermosa por fuera, pero muchas veces más hermosa por dentro. Es temerosa de Dios, es decir, que tanto ama y venera a Dios que teme hacer algo que pueda ofenderle. Dios es el centro de su vida y esta es la razón por la cual es mansa y humilde de corazón, es decir, que acepta y se somete sin resistencia a la voluntad de Dios.

Más aún, la Lolita moderna es consciente de sus dones y talentos y los utiliza para traer alegría y servir a las otras personas; ella cree en sus habilidades y esto la hace ser sociable y segura de sí misma, todo sin la necesidad de ser el centro de atención; ella es inteligente, pero sabe también que no lo sabe todo y que el aprendizaje es un ciclo que nunca termina. En definitiva, la Lolita moderna está llena de amor, está llena de Dios. Ella es una luz que brilla intensamente en el mundo y que inspira amor y admiración en la mayoría de los corazones.
