Understanding Divine Love

Spiritual work

Episode 7: Love Spell

How would Jesus like to be loved by all of us?

The answer to this question has the potential to transform our lives, because it takes our attention away from people and things, and places it exclusively on Jesus. In this study and podcast episode, I talk about what inspired my pop song Love Spell and explore the idea of loving Jesus through everyone and everything, at all times.

Exclusive love

In Raúl's words: Love Spell is a song about God's love for us and the kind of relationship He wants to have with each person. The idea for the song came from reading the teachings of Jesus given to Luisa Piccarreta in the Book of Heaven. These teachings, read and practiced in conjunction with those found in the Bible, have made me understand that Jesus expects to have a relationship with each person that is exclusive, as though we lived with Him alone in the world and there was no one else to love but Him.

Think for a moment about a man and a woman. Wouldn't we agree that most people in the world would think that the love between a man and a woman should be reserved exclusively for one another? In other words, isn't it holy, good and right, that a man is faithful to his woman, and the woman faithful to her man? If this is in the human plane, how much more wouldn't it be true in our relationship with God?

Every sentence in Love Spell is meant to reflect the idea that our love for Jesus should be exclusive, that He must become our core desire, the heart of all things, the sole reason behind our every action, in short, our only love.

We humans are the reason why God created all there is

We are the center of His love, and this not because I say it, but because of all He's done for us throughout the history of mankind: all things—good or bad—God has permitted them, if we choose to accept His invitation, to allow us to return to the place He intended for us before the fall of man, i.e., to allow us to return to the way, to how He created us: holy, saint, and in a perfect union with God.

Loving Jesus through all there is

Realizing that God has loved us first, and that He loves us through every person and everything there is, made me understand that it's time for us to love Him back in the same degree, i.e., through every person and everything there is. Perhaps not many people will want to love Jesus back in the same degree He loves us—perhaps I'm wrong—but those who learn to do it, as a way to pay God back for His love, can have the intention to love Him with His same love through every person that has ever existed and that will ever exist.

What about the rest of creation? I mean, the trees, the animals, the oceans, the stars, the moon, the whole universe, they don't have an intelligence that allows them to understand like we can that God exists, that He created all there is (including us), that He loved us first, and that He will continue to love us to the end. Well, in that case we can have the intention, on behalf of all things and like we hear in the chorus, to

"Fill all the world with Love for You, sweet Lord"

We see images of a mirror in Love Spell's music video. Let's become like that mirror, so that Jesus, wherever He looks in the universe, finds His same love being reflected back at Him. Let's fill the whole world with love by mirroring back, by returning God's love for us, so that He hears everywhere our constant voice that says "I thank You, I love You, I bless You, my sole true Love."

Song lyrics

I just found out that there's just one Love
Just one Love and nothing more
I just found out that there's more to love
That you are my sole true Love
I just found out that you're deeply in love
Deeply in love, to say some words
I just found out that I am in love
That you are my sole true Love

Deeh-teeh deeh deeh-teeh
Deeh-teeh deeh deeh-teeh
Deeh-teeh deeh deeh-teeh
Deeh-teeh deeh
Deeh deeh-teeh deeh deeh-teeh deeh deeh
Deeh deeh-teeh deeh deeh-teeh deeh deeh
Deeh deeh-teeh duh puhm puhm

Chorus
If all there is in our world are words of Love
Then I'll return your words of love, oh my sweet Love!
If all you speak are words of Love, and nothing more
Then I'll fill all the world with Love for You, sweet Lordr

I just found out that there's just one Love
Just one Love and nothing more
I just found out that there's more to love
That you are my sole true Love
I just found out that you're deeply in love
Deeply in love, to say some words
I just found out that I am in love
That you are my sole true Love
Deeh-teeh deeh deeh-teeh
Deeh-teeh deeh deeh-teeh
Deeh-teeh deeh deeh-teeh
Deeh-teeh deeh
Deeh deeh-teeh deeh deeh-teeh deeh deeh
Deeh deeh-teeh deeh deeh-teeh deeh deeh
Deeh deeh-teeh duh puhm puhm

If all there is in our world are words of Love
Then I'll return your words of love, oh my sweet Love!
If all you speak are words of Love, and nothing more
Then I'll fill all the world with Love for You, sweet Lord
